The digital giant has acquired worldwide rights to “Consider Phlebas,” the first novel in the series about a world known as “the Culture.” Dennis Kelly (“Matilda”) is on board to adapt the book for Amazon Studios and Plan B Entertainment.

Producers Jason Shuman (Rebel in the Rye, Lone Survivor) and Zachary Green have launched the Million Dollar Screenplay Fellowship, aimed at college and university students with the goal of finding a new generation of screenwriters.
Launch, announced by the producers Wednesday, will award $100,000 in education grants to eight finalists with the grand prize winner having his or her screenplay produced as a feature film with a budget of at least $1 million.
The competition is open to students around the world who are enrolled in an accredited two-year, four-year college/university or graduate program.
